Born and raised on Sydney’s North shore, David was admitted to practice in New Zealand in 1993 where he practiced for 5 years in Hawkes Bay and Wellington before returning with his family to live in Young NSW in 1998.
David was a partner in a long established NSW country law firm. Following 10 years in Young David moved to Canberra where he has practiced in one of Canberra’s large mid-tier firms and on his own account before joining the ACT Government Solicitor as a Principal solicitor in the Property and Commercial Team. David has worked on a range of matters including major land developments, sales and purchases for the ACT government as well as general leasing, licensing and other transactional and litigation matters.
David brings 24 years of practical experience in litigation, property and commercial law practice to Backhouse Legal.
David has represented government and private clients in courts in New Zealand, NSW, Victoria and the ACT on matters ranging from drink driving to murder and appeals in the criminal courts and from debt collection, industrial law to complex winding up and construction matters in the civil courts.
David has represented government and private clients in major land release programs in NSW and the ACT. The largest of which have included Campbell 5 precinct and Denman Prospect Stage 1 in Canberra for the Land Development Agency. David now represents individuals, businesses and superfunds in leasing, sales and purchases of commercial and private property as well as financiers lending on development projects around Australia.
